Terms of service
These terms are the agreement between you and Coena when you use the Coena app or this site. We've tried to keep them readable.
Effective October 11, 2026 · Version 2026-10-11
1. Using Coena
By creating an account or using Coena you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. You need to be 18 or older and able to agree to these terms. If you use Coena for an organization, you agree for it.
2. Accounts and kitchens
- Keep your password safe and tell us at security@coena.app if you think someone else is using your account.
- A kitchen is shared: the people you invite can see and change its recipes, plans, lists and pantry. The person who created a kitchen is its owner and can remove members.
- Anyone who joins with your invite code joins your kitchen, so share codes only with people you cook with.
3. Your content
- Recipes, photos, notes and everything else you put in Coena stay yours. You give us permission to store, copy, process and display them only as needed to run Coena for you and the people in your kitchen — for example to make thumbnails, search them or send them to an AI provider when you use an AI feature.
- Recipes you import from websites, books or other apps are for your personal use. Respect the rights of their authors; don't use Coena to republish other people's recipes.
- You're responsible for what you add, and for having the right to add it.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use Coena to break the law; to harass anyone; to upload malware or content you have no right to share; to try to reach other kitchens' data; to probe, overload or work around Coena's security, limits or allowances (good-faith security research under our disclosure policy is welcome); or to resell Coena or scrape it at scale. Automations with your own API tokens are fine within reasonable use.
5. AI features
- The planner, imports and photos use AI. AI can be wrong: check what it proposes — especially ingredients, quantities, allergens, cooking temperatures and food safety — before you rely on it.
- Coena gives general cooking and nutrition information, not medical or dietary advice. If you have allergies or a medical condition, double-check recipes yourself.
- Generated recipe photos are illustrations, not pictures of your food.
- The planner proposes changes; nothing changes in your kitchen until you apply it.
6. Prices and stores
Grocery prices come from retailers, community sources or estimates, as labeled in the app. They can be out of date or different at the checkout, and availability isn't guaranteed. Coena isn't a store: purchases you make with a retailer are between you and that retailer.
7. Other services
Some links to stores are affiliate links, and Coena may earn a commission on purchases made through them; see the affiliate disclosure. You can turn them off in Settings.
Coena works with services we don't control, such as Claude, retailers and your browser's push service. Their terms apply to your use of them, and we're not responsible for them.
8. Plans and billing
- Coena has a free plan. Coena Plus costs $5.99 a month or $49.99 a year (plus applicable taxes); the current prices and allowances are on the pricing page and in the app.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel anytime in Settings → Plan & billing; your kitchen keeps Coena Plus until the end of the period you paid for and then moves to the free plan. Nothing in your kitchen is deleted.
- Except where the law requires otherwise, payments aren't refundable for partial periods. If something went wrong, write to us — we'll be reasonable.
- We may change prices or allowances. Price changes apply from your next renewal, and we'll tell you at least 30 days before.
9. Changes to Coena
We keep improving Coena, which means features change. If we ever shut Coena down, we'll give you at least 60 days' notice and a way to export your recipes.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using Coena and delete your account anytime. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put others at risk; unless that would be unsafe or unlawful, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to export your recipes.
11. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Coena reliable, but it's provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that AI output, prices or imported recipes are accurate. Keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose — the export in Settings makes that easy.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Coena isn't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by recipes, AI output, prices or third-party services, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before it arose and US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you; nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.
13. Disputes and governing law
If you have a problem, email hello@coena.app first; most things can be fixed quickly. These terms are governed by the laws of the place where Coena's operator is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the place you live.
14. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. If you keep using Coena after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can delete your account.
